Recently, I noticed on itunes that there is a 'play count' which shows how many times a song has been played. It was interesting to look through the library and see which songs are clearly played far more than others.
So, the other day whilst driving my car down the 6-8-0, I was listening to the radio and heard a song that made me wonder what its 'play count' was during the course of my life. And it got me thinking that if there was a counter for every song I've listened to throughout the past 36 years, which one would have the most plays?
Clearly, I don't have the answer but from my best guess and soul-searching analysis during the commute this week, I've decided it would likely be "The Boxer" by Paul Simon or "bridge over troubled water" or practically anything he sang in the 70s, and again in the 80s...90s etc... (I know, Garfunkel is in there too, but only in the 60s so we don't have to include him, since I wasn't born yet - plus we all know who the real brains were in that duo).
I think Paul Simon has been around me since birth, whether it was on a record or one of my dad's serenades or radio or cd or at my wedding reception, I've never stopped listening. I recall one memory of visiting my dad - I don't know, maybe I was 6 ?, and he decided to 'teach' me about Paul Simon and put this record on:
And proceeded to teach me the lyrics: "Just slip out the back jack, make a new plan stan, no need to be coy roy..." I guess that was his version of Dr. Seuss? Anyway, it stuck. Paul's the man...always has been. So my guess is the play count would be highest for him.
What would yours be?
